As global urbanization accelerates, the need for effective fire safety measures in residential buildings, particularly in high-rise residential buildings, is more critical than ever.
In New York City, fire safety regulations for residential buildings include specific requirements for apartment and guest room identification and directional markings and signs, as outlined in 3 RCNY §505-01. Additionally, entrance door fire emergency markings in apartments, guest rooms, sleeping rooms, and stairwell doors are mandated under 3 RCNY §505-02. These rules apply to Group R-1 and R-2 buildings.
Stipulates the requirements for the design and placement of entrance door room number markings for dwelling units in all Group R-1 and Group R-2 buildings and occupancies, and lobby and hallway corridor directional signs.
The signs and markings required under this section are meant to assist emergency response personnel in locating the dwelling units they need to respond to.
It mandates that all entrance doors to dwelling units and stairwells doors in Group-1 and Group-2 buildings or occupancies have specific markings to aid firefighters in locating such dwelling units, stairwells, and in identifying multi-floor dwelling units.
These markings should be affixed to the door jamb on the hinged side of the door, not more than 12 inches above the floor. For multi-floor dwelling units, additional markings with directional arrows are required.
Everlux offers a bespoke signage solution that meet the stringent requirements of the New York City Fire Department rules 3 RCNY §505-01 and 3 RCNY §505-02 ensuring that each sign is uniquely tailored to the building’s specific needs.
In conclusion, Everlux is dedicated to improving fire safety in high-rise residential buildings. With its assortment of compliant, customizable, and high-visibility signage, Everlux is at the forefront of ensuring safety is not just a regulation, but a guarantee.

Tragically, these incidents cause a significant number of civilian casualties and injuries and result in billions of dollars in property damage. Even more alarming is the frequency at which fire departments are summoned to respond, 23 seconds per fire on average, with structural fires breaking out approximately every 65 seconds.
Undoubtedly, fire safety stands as an absolute priority in every establishment. At the core of any effective fire safety strategy are functional fire extinguishers. However, merely having fire extinguishers is not enough; they must be easily identifiable and accessible during emergencies. This is where fire extinguisher safety signs come into play.
Fire extinguisher location identification safety signs are used to guide individuals to fire extinguishers promptly. These signs typically include bright colors, clear symbols, and easy-to-understand text, playing a crucial role in fire safety preparedness. The United States Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sets the standards for safety signs in US workplaces, including those related to fire safety.
Complying with the United States Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards is not only essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of employees but is also a legal requirement. OSHA is a federal agency under the United States Department of Labor, responsible for ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for employees. The agency sets and enforces standards to protect workers across various industries, including fire safety standards related to fire extinguisher safety signs.
NFPA is a global nonprofit organization that develops codes and standards related to fire safety, electrical safety, and other hazards. The association's standards are widely recognized and adopted by various industries, including fire protection, life safety, and emergency response. NFPA 10 is the standard that specifically addresses portable fire extinguishers, including the identification and marking of fire extinguishers. It provides guidelines for clear and informative fire extinguisher safety signs, including their location, size, color, and content, to enable quick identification of extinguishers and their corresponding fire classes.
Strategic placement of fire extinguisher safety signs is crucial. OSHA mandates the installation of fire extinguisher safety signs in conspicuous locations where fire extinguishers are present. These signs must be easily seen, unobstructed, and placed at a height that ensures clear visibility. High-traffic areas and points of vulnerability should have clearly marked signs for quick access during emergencies.
Everlux is a trusted and renowned supplier of high-quality photoluminescent safety signs, including fire extinguisher safety signs. With a commitment to safety, Everlux designs and manufactures signs that comply with OSHA, NFPA, and other regulatory standards. Our signs are known for their durability, ability to withstand various environmental conditions, and more importantly for the conspicuity they offer under any visibility conditions.

It’s not possible to predict when an emergency will occur. Nevertheless, it is possible to mitigate the consequences of emergency situations and, in some cases, to prevent them by raising awareness to the risks and training staff on how to act in the event of an emergency.
Everlux’ wide range of photoluminescent safety signage can help in the prevention and during emergency situations, with its high-quality products that identify egress paths and that will guide people to safety.
One of those products are Photoluminescent Evacuation Maps, whose characteristics are distinctive and allow people to be safe in any emergency.
These evacuation maps can be manufactured in different sizes and colours, and should be parallel wall mounted, leading the way to safety.
They illustrate the path to the nearest emergency exit, even when the power goes off and a stressful and panic situation may happen.
Photoluminescent evacuation maps can also assist rescue brigades in finding their whereabouts when, under unfavorable visibility conditions, they need to identify a specific area of the building where they need to go to perform the rescue.
Panoramic
signs are an ideal
solution to identify the location of emergency and fire-fighting equipment
signs in corridors and will be the best choice for wider zones in the facility
as they can be located irrespectively from the user position in that area. In
fact, this type of signage guarantees the best visibility because the two faces
of the sign form, with the wall, a 45° angle, providing a visibility zone of
180°, which means that it is visible from any point.
Everlux also develops Panoramic Signs based on client requirements. If you have specific requirements or desire a customized sign, please contact us by clicking on the button below:
Everlux will start its 2023 nationwide exhibition tour, once again, at the NAFED Conference & Expo Las Vegas, that will take place at the Bally’s Hotel, on the 9th and 10th of March.
This is a special year for NAFED as they are celebrating its 60th anniversary and we could not be more thrilled to be a part of it. "Unleash your sales potential” it’s this year’s theme and we believe that these NAFED events are trendsetters for the fire protection industry in United States.
As we are also celebrating NAFED’s anniversary, we are looking forward to meeting the fire equipment distributors and to re-connect with everyone.

We look forward to meeting you again!
From 9th to 15th, NFPA will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week, with the campaign "Fire won’t wait. Plan you escape.”. Everlux is joining NFPA in this celebration by placing the Everlux Escape Plans right on the spotlight, throughout the SFPE and Calsafe events, as reminder that advance planning is extremely important to quickly escape from a building fire.
"It is fundamental for everyone to plan and practice a fire escape. Everyone needs to be prepared in advance, so that they know what to do when the smoke alarm sounds. Given that every home is different, every home fire escape plan will also be different.” – NFPA.
In fact, Emergency Action Plans are required in many type of buildings as per section 4.8 of NFPA 101. Additionally, also as per NFPA 101 and NFPA 170, specific buildings also require diagrammatic escape plans posted in conspicuous areas reflecting the actual floor arrangement, fire-fighting equipment, egress paths and exit locations.
When preparing an evacuation plan, there are many aspects to consider for a safe evacuation. Everlux simplify the process, help you identify your requirements and develop your escape plan

Fire alarm
signs are used to clearly identify the location of fire alarm pull station
signs within a building. The Everlux fire alarm signs follow the design
specifications established by NFPA 170 Standard for Fire Safety and
Emergency Symbols and exceed the luminance requirements of the applicable
ASTM standards.
The Everlux catalogue includes a wide selection of fire alarm pull station signs to virtually cover any application needs. From those, we highlight the portrait layout signs that combine the fire alarm graphical symbol with supplementary text available for Type 1 (parallel to the wall), Type 2 (perpendicularly to the wall) and Type P (panoramic) installations. Each of them offering different viewing angles as illustrated in the animation.
In case of fire, most elevators are not to be used in the evacuation process. In these cases, an instruction not to use elevators shall be posted near elevator call buttons. The safety symbols used in such instructions are specified by NFPA 170 – Standard for Fire Safety and Emergency Symbols.
All 50 states have Automated External Defibrillator (AED) programs for places of assembly such as airports, stadiums, churches, health clubs, schools and hotels. These must be maintained according to the manufacturer and the American Heart Association (AHA) which address the need of using AED signs to identify where these devices are located.
In case of a cardiac emergency, AED signs provide essential information that will quickly guide people in the direction of the equipment. The design principles of AED signs are established by NFPA 170 – Standard for Fire Safety and Emergency Symbols.
These signs are available in several options and will help you to keep your facilities in compliance. To learn more about the Everlux AED signs visit our digital catalogue
In its CHAPTER 10 – MEANS OF EGRESS, SECTION 1025, LUMINOUS EGRESS PATH MARKINGS, the International Building Code (IBC) requires the use of approved luminous Egress Path Markings in high-rise buildings of Group A, B, E, I, M, and R-1 occupancies in accordance with Sections 1025.1 through 1025.5.
An egress path marking system contains many different components each of them having its specific purpose. The floor and wall perimeter delineation stripes maybe be the most important component to mark the exit path but in emergency situations, door opening hardware signs provide just as essential guidance on where and how to open exit doors.
As per IBC, door hardware shall be marked with a photoluminescent marking with at least 16 square inches. This marking shall be located behind, adjacent to or on the door handle or escutcheon. Panic bars shall be marked with at least 1” wide photoluminescent marking in the complete length of the actuating bar or touchpad.
NFPA 101 Life Safety Code further enforces this requirement in paragraph 7.2.2.5.5.7 Door hardware Marking.
Everlux provides a comprehensive selection of door opening hardware signs and markings as part of its UL 1994 Listed Egress Path Markings range. Learn more in our digital catalogue.

A building safety officer faces two challenges in providing an effective safety solution for the building users who need to circulate in stairwells:
These new products are more suitable for places where, given the type of use or the actual construction features, a higher anti-slip grade solution is required. Steeper and narrower stairwells and places with higher slipping risks are some of the examples of such applications.
Everlux also developed new flat aluminium profile solutions with enhanced anti-slip characteristics. These new profiles are intended to be used on uneven floors where it is also required the use of a higher anti-slip grade solution, or where an anti-slip and photoluminescent combined product may offer a decisive contribution to reduce the slipping hazard and to improve the evacuation marking conditions.
In this example we are using wall perimeter demarcation lines which drops to the floor. To assure the continuity of the system the floor demarcation stripe stretches in all the extension of the door and meets the wall demarcation stripe. | |
The floor perimeter demarcation lines must be installed as close as practicable to the wall to a maximum distance of 4” as illustrated in the left. |
The Everlux signs for stairway identification are UL 1994 Listed.
Stairway identification signs must be installed at each floor landing and must contain information that identifies that stairway, the floor, the total number of floors that stairway runs through, whether or not it provides roof access and the floor level for exit discharge.
These signs should be designed and manufactured in compliance with the following list of requirements International Building Code requirements:
The use of Fire Safety Signs is required by several standards and codes such as NFPA 10, NFPA 101, NFPA 170, OSHA and the International Fire Code.
To provide a safe environment and reduce risk, you must select the more effective Fire Safety Signs to be used in your buildings. For signs to be seen clearly and to work under any circumstance, there are many factors that must be considered, such as the right size, the location and the viewing angle.
Considering the viewing angle, you will need to select the appropriate type of sign from a variety of shapes. The most common are the Type 1, Type 2 and Panoramic Signs:
Depending on the location where it is going to be installed, you may require the use of a Panoramic Fire Safety Sign. A Panoramicsign offers the greatest visibility so it can be perceived from 180° angles and therefore will also be a good solution to identify the location of fire-fighting equipment signs in corridors and will be the best choice for wider zones in the facility as they can be located irrespectively from the user position in that area.
At Everlux, we can help you identify your needs.
